Auburn General Dentistry

Take Proactive Measures to Maintain Your Oral Health

At Beautiful Smiles, we offer a variety of general dentistry procedures to meet the needs of our Auburn, New York patients. We believe that having a strong dental foundation is of the utmost importance, and we are committed to helping our patients maintain their oral health. Many of our cosmetic dentistry procedures and restorative dentistry procedures are intended to address and correct issues that arise due to poor oral hygiene and inadequate brushing and flossing. By regularly visiting the dentist for routine cleanings and checkups, you can help reduce the chance of having to undergo extensive restorative procedures at a future date. Additionally, many cosmetic procedures have a greater chance of success if the patient has healthy gums and teeth.

We encourage you to contact Beautiful Smiles today to schedule a consultation with Dr. Nangle or Dr. Ohnezeit and implement a general dentistry treatment routine. At our Auburn, New York office, we are happy to treat patients from Syracuse, Ithaca, Skaneateles, and Camillus, and look forward to speaking with you.

Teeth Cleaning

One of the cornerstones of general dentistry is a thorough cleaning on a regular basis to help ensure that the teeth are adequately maintained and healthy. At Beautiful Smiles, we encourage our patients to come in for a thorough cleaning every six months. Even with regular brushing and flossing, plaque can still develop around the gum line, especially in hard-to-reach areas. Left unchecked, plaque can lead to serious issues, including gum disease. If you are interested in maintaining your oral health or would like to start your children on a regular dental routine, we would be pleased to help.

Dental X-Rays

We are strong proponents of dental X-rays at Beautiful Smiles. Dental X-rays provide our team of dental professionals with the ability to peer into the teeth and check on things that would be difficult to evaluate otherwise, including root structure, jaw alignment, the degree to which wisdom teeth have developed, and the health of the gums. With dental X-rays, we can determine whether orthodontic care (such as Six Month Smiles) is necessary, as well as check on tooth decay. Though you may believe that your teeth are in sound condition, a cursory evaluation of their outward appearance cannot provide the information that a digital X-ray can.

Dental Checkups

Regular dental checkups let us evaluate a patient’s overall oral health and look for such problems as cavities, gum erosion, tooth decay, misalignment, and cracks or chips. Determining whether there are issues that need to be addressed is the first step in the dental care process. Once we have evaluated your dental health, we can determine the best course of action to improve the functionality and aesthetics of your smile. At Beautiful Smiles, we utilize porcelain veneers, dental implants, dental crowns, dental bridges, dentures, dental fillings, dental bonding, and root canal therapy to meet our patients’ needs. If you are suffering from tooth pain or have not been to the dentist in some time, a dental checkup should be your first step.

Root Canals

Beautiful Smiles providers are trained and experienced in endodontic treatment from simple root canals to complex endodontic treatment including root canal retreatment, root amputation, and an apicoectomy.

Please check out the videos in our patient education section for an illustration of the root canal procedure.

A root canal is the removal/debridement of the dental pulp and corresponding tissue inside the root and crown of the tooth.  Once removed the canal or canals are shaped and sealed.  It is common but not always indicated that a crown or full coverage restoration is needed to properly protect and/or seal the top portion of the tooth.  The process of a root canal can be very quick or take several appointments depending on the clinical situation.  Our providers will review your case and explain in detail the treatment and restorative options before any treatment is provided.  A common misconception is this procedure is very painful.  By utilizing local anesthesia properly, a root canal should be as pain-free as a filling.  We assess all patient’s comfort and dental anxiety before all procedures.

Why do I need it?  Sadly there are times due to large cavities, tooth pain, infection, tooth fracture that a root canal is needed.  A root canal procedure should be pain-free and its goal is to restore the tooth to proper function and esthetics.
